MS Excel Function Category
MS Excel has many built-in functions that we can use in formulas. To view all functions by category, select Formulas tab»Insert Function. Then the Insert Function dialog box appears, from which we can select a function.

Let’s take a look at some of the built-in functions in MS Excel.
text function
LOWER – Converts all characters in the provided text string to lowercase
UPPER – Converts all characters in the provided text string to uppercase
TRIM – removes duplicate spaces, as well as spaces at the beginning and end of a text string
CONCATENATE – Concatenates two or more text strings together.
LEFT – Returns the specified number of characters from the beginning of the provided text string.
MID – Returns the specified number of characters from the middle of the provided text string
RIGHT – Returns the specified number of characters from the end of the provided text string.
LEN – Returns the length of the provided text string
FIND – Returns the provided character or the position of the text string from the provided text string (case sensitive).
date time
DATE – Returns the date from the user-supplied year, month, and day.
TIME – Returns the time from the user-supplied hours, minutes, and seconds.
DATEVALUE – Converts a text string showing a date to an integer representing a date in Excel datetime code.
TIMEVALUE – Converts a text string showing time to a decimal representing time in Excel.
NOW – Returns the current date and time.
TODAY – Returns today’s date.

MAX – Returns the maximum value from the provided list of numbers.
MIN – Returns the minimum value from the provided list of numbers.
AVERAGE – Returns the average of the provided list of numbers.
COUNT – Returns the number of numeric values in the provided set of cells or values.
COUNTIF – Returns the number of cells (in the provided range) that satisfy the given criteria.
SUM – Returns the sum of the provided list of numbers
logical
AND – Tests a number of user-defined conditions and returns TRUE if all conditions evaluate to TRUE, otherwise returns FALSE
OR – Tests a number of user-defined conditions and returns TRUE if any condition evaluates to TRUE, otherwise returns FALSE.
NOT – Returns the logical inverse of the user-supplied logical value or expression, i.e. FALSE if the supplied argument is TRUE and TRUE if the supplied argument is FAL
Math and Trigonometry
ABS – Returns the absolute value (i.e. modulus) of the provided number.
SIGN – Returns the sign (+1, -1 or 0) of the provided number.
SQRT – Returns the positive square root of the given number.
MOD – Returns the remainder from the division between two provided numbers.
