How to restore chat history on FMWhatsApp

To make sure to back up your chats before restoring on a new Android device:

  1. Open FMWhatsApp > More Options > Settings > Chats > Chat Backup.
  2. Select the Google account to which you want to backup your chats. You can also create local backups on the device.
  3. Click Backup.
  4. After saving the backup, you can remove FMWhatsApp from your device and install it on your new Android device.

Restoring from a Google Drive backup:

To keep a copy of your chat history on Google Drive, you can enable automatic backups of your chats and choose a frequency of daily, weekly, or monthly. In order to successfully restore a Google Drive backup, you will need to use the same phone number and Google account that was used to create the backup.

To restore a backup:

Make sure your new Android device is linked to the Google Account where the backup was saved

Install and open FMWhatsApp, then verify your number.

Click RESTORE when prompted to restore chat and media from Google Drive.

When the recovery process is complete, click Next. Your chat history will be displayed after initialization is complete.

After the chat is restored, FMWhatsApp will continue to restore your media files.

If you install FMWhatsApp without a backup from Google Drive, FMWhatsApp will automatically restore from your local backup file.

Restoring from a local backup
If you want to use a local backup, you’ll need to transfer the files to your phone using a computer, file explorer, or SD card.

To restore a backup:

  1. Download the file manager app.
  2. In the file manager app, navigate to your local storage or sdcard > FMWhatsApp > Databases. If your data isn’t stored on the SD card, you may see “Internal Storage” or “Main Storage.” Copy the latest backup file to the new appliance’s local storage database folder.
    Install and open FMWhatsApp, then verify your number.
  3. When prompted to restore chats and media from a local backup, tap Restore.

Notice:

Your phone can store up to 7 days of local backup files.

A local backup will be automatically created and saved as a file on your phone every day at 2:00 AM.

If your data is not stored in the /sdcard/FMWhatsApp/ folder, you may see the “Internal Storage” or “Main Storage” folder.

restore a newer local backup;

If you want to restore a local backup that is not the latest, you need to do the following:

  1. Download the file manager app.
  2. In the file manager app, navigate to your local storage or sdcard > FMWhatsApp > Databases. If your data isn’t stored on the SD card, you may see “Internal Storage” or “Main Storage.”
  3. Rename the backup file you want to restore from msgstore-YYYY-MM-DD.1.db.crypt12 to msgstore.db.crypt12. Older backups may use older protocols such as crypt9 or crypt10. Do not change the number of the crypt extension.
  4. Uninstall and reinstall FMWhatsApp.
  5. Click Restore when prompted.
